General

  • Appendectomy
    • removal of the vermiform appendix
  • Hernia
    • protrusion of a looped bowel or tissue through the abdominal wall, usually around the navel or the groin
  • Gastric Bypass
    • decreasing the size of the stomach in order to permanently reduce food intake and thus result in weight loss
  • Nephrectomy
    • kidney removal
  • Mastectomy
    • surgical removal of the breast, there are four types of surgeries that fall into this category: simple, partial, modified radical and radical

    • opening the chest, most often to remove part of the lung

  • ACL
    • ACL surgery is required when the ACL, one of the major ligaments around the knee, is torn; this can happen when a force rotates the lower leg while the knee is bent

    • injured or damaged parts of the knee joint are replaced with artificial parts; the procedure is performed by separating the muscles and ligaments around the knee to expose the knee capsule (the tough, gristle-like tissue surrounding the knee joint)

    • repairing the rotator cuff tendons, which are inflamed and causing pain when performing certain activities
